Lightridge senior pitcher Karissa Bowes struck out eight batters over five innings in the Lightning’s 10-0 victory over the Eagles. Lightridge junior infielder Peyton Robinson and senior outfielder Riley Thomas were big at the plate, combining for six hits, four runs, and three RBIs.
The Lightning took the early lead with a goal by junior forward Lucas Conroy in the fourth minute, but the Rams battled back with an equalizer from senior forward Jayden Ybarra before halftime. A gritty fight through the second half and into overtime left the teams knotted at 1-1 as the final.
Although the Patriots rallied in the sixth inning to tie the game at 5 apiece, the Mountaineers plated two runners in the top of the seventh and then made three consecutive outs in the bottom to secure the 7-5 victory.
