When the Captains hosted longtime rival Loudoun Valley on November 29, they put an end to the drought, claiming the VHSL Region 4C title, outlasting the Vikings, 28-14, and earning a trip to their first ever VHSL state tournament.

After three ties throughout the game, JMU senior safety Jacob Thomas (Stone Bridge/2022) and the Dukes’ defense limited the Cougars to a field goal in the fourth quarter, allowing JMU to score the winning touchdown on the following possession for the 24-20 victory.
The Captains escaped with a 14-13 win over the Pride to advance to the VHSL Region 4C championship.
