Virginia Beach, Va. — For the fourth straight year and the fifth time in six years, the Freedom High School gymnastics team has won the VHSL State title, moving them into a tie for second place with Park View for the most gymnastics team championships in VHSL history. Led by senior Riley Waldrop and junior Emily Hyun, the Eagles edged out Stafford, 143.850-141.383, in the four-team state final on February 21 in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach, Va. — Stone Bridge High School senior Charlie Lausten won the 126-pound weight class, pinning Midlothian freshman Knox Berry, at the VHSL 5A State championships on February 20 in Virginia Beach. Lausten led the field of 20 Loudouners who placed at the VHSL 5A State championships as the only Loudouner to compete in the championship round. Salem, Va. — Independence High School senior Sam Johnson reached the podium, placing third in the 138-pound weight class, leading the Tigers to an 11th place team finish at the VHSL 3A State championships on February 21 in Salem.
