Purcellville (December 26, 2015) — Loudoun Valley High School senior Trey McDyre has signed to continue his baseball career at Liberty University starting in the 2016-2017 school year.
“Being committed is definitely a weight off of your shoulders scholastically,” the 6-foot McDyre said. “But you try not to let it get to your head because the guys I’m going to be competing with for positions are going to be extremely talented, especially the class I’m coming in with.”
McDyre believed that Liberty provided the best opportunity for success on and off the field. It also helped that his fellow Loudoun Valley teammate, Hunter Gore, also signed to play baseball at Liberty.
“I chose Liberty because of their amazing facilities and outstanding baseball reputation. I have been lucky enough to play on their field twice before in state championships, and the tools around them rival any teams’ in the country, setting them up to produce outstanding players,” McDyre said. “Also, having a few old teammates down there with me is certainly nice.”
McDyre will join fellow Loudoun Valley graduates Jack DeGroat (2015), Sam Urban (2015) and Hunter Gore (2016) in Lynchburg next fall. The four of them plan to help the Division I Flames build on their 33-23 record in the spring of 2015.
“I’m hoping to add a dynamic factor to the Flames team,” said McDyre who plays club for Stars Baseball. “I believe I am versatile to play almost anywhere and hope to make an immediate impact.”
McDyre has helped Loudoun Valley put together winning seasons every year since his freshman year including back-to-back VHSL 3A state championship game appearances. In 2013, they got as far as a VHSL Region II quarterfinal with a loss to Sherando, 1-0, in 13 innings and ended the season with a record of 15-9. In 2014, they beat Poquoson High School, 9-1, to claim the VHSL 3A state championship title, before they lost to Lafayette High School, 5-4, in 2015.
“Loudoun Valley baseball lost some key contributors to graduation last year, such as Liberty University commits Jack Degroat and Sam Urban along with Andrew Lohr and Kyle Bowles,” said McDyre who was named first team All-Conference 28 and first team All-LoCo in 2015. “We are expecting to have another great year. We are going to need some young guys to step up, but the goal every season is to win the whole thing, so I’m sure that’s what we will try to do.”
