Sterling (August 30, 2015) — Dominion High School senior Ellie Hansen has made a commitment to continue her lacrosse career at Christopher Newport University beginning in the 2016-17 academic year.
“The feeling is so surreal,” the 5-foot-5 Hansen said. “I’ve been in the recruiting process for a while, so to finally be done after three long years is such an accomplishment.”
CNU – which is located in coastal Newport News – has a 260-acre campus and one of the nation’s most successful NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse programs.
Head coach Lisa Valentine took the reign for the 2015 season from coach Carolyn Query – who led the Captains to six NCAA Tournaments over the last eight seasons.
“I fell in love with CNU when I first walked onto the campus,” Hansen said. “After the third visit, I knew I wanted to spend the next four years there and coach Valentine is really dedicated to the team, despite this being her first year.”
Hansen – who was selected as a 2015 Brine National High School All-American and represented the Washington D.C. region at the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Midlothian last month – is looking forward to making a significant contribution as a Captain.
“I think I will add speed in the midfield and also contribute to transitions to attack to set up attackers,” Hansen said
Hansen has high expectations for her team and is looking forward to her final year as a Titan. In 2015, Dominion finished 10-5 including a 5-3 record in the Dulles Group before falling to the eventual state champion Woodgrove Wolverines in a Dulles Group semifinal.
“This year for Dominion, I’m expecting a lot,” Hansen said. “We just got a new coach, and she really is putting us on the track of success. I’m hoping this year we can win some titles!”
