Purcellville, Va. — Former Loudoun Valley High School student-athletes Sara Schwartz Bolen, Jimmy Cullinane, Brandon Grayson, Cory Livesay Maric, and Joshua Spring, as well as former head football and track & field coach Bruce Sheppard have all been inducted into the Loudoun Valley Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
Sara Schwartz Bolen (Class of 1997) was a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and track & field during her time at Loudoun Valley. During her senior season, Bolen was named first team all-district and second team all-region as a volleyball team captain in 1997 and was named the 1997 Female Viking Award recipient. After graduating from Loudoun Valley, Bolen attended Frostburg State University where she competed in volleyball and track & field, before bringing her talents back to Loudoun where she has served as a PE teacher as well as volleyball and basketball coach.
Jimmy Cullinane (Class of 1985) was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball during his time at Loudoun Valley. During his senior season, Cullinane was the captain of the football and wrestling teams, earning him the Male Viking Award in 1985. Cullinane was a two-way starter on the football team, earning first team all-district and all-region honors as a running back and first team all-district and second team all-region honors as a linebacker. In 1985, Cullinane won the Northwestern District wrestling title at the 176-pound class, before attending Chowan College where he wrestled for the Hawks.
Brandon Grayson (Class of 2014) served as captain of both the football and baseball teams during his tenure at Loudoun Valley, earning him the honor of 2014 Loudoun Valley Male Athlete of the Year as well as the 2014 Allstate Foundation VHSL Achievement Award. In 2014, Grayson helped lead the Vikings baseball team to the VHSL 3A State Championship, earning first team all conference, first team all-region, and first team all-state honors along the way. During his fall football season, Grayson helped lead the Vikings to a VHSL 3A State semifinal, earning Co-Defensive Conference 28 Player of the Year, first team all-region, and first team all-state honors along the way. After graduating from Loudoun Valley, Grayson attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where he earned All-Mountain East Conference honors as a linebacker for the Bobcats.
Cory Livesay Maric (Class of 2002) served as captain of both the basketball and soccer teams during her tenure at Loudoun Valley. Maric was thrice named to the Dulles District first team in soccer and earned first team all-district honors in basketball as a senior. After graduating from Loudoun Valley, Maric attended Lenoir-Rhyne University, where she was a four-year starter on the soccer team and served as the Bears’ team captain.
Joshua Spring (Class of 2007) was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and track & field during his time at Loudoun Valley. During his senior season, Spring was the captain of the football, wrestling, and track & field teams, earning him the co-Male Athlete of the Year Award in 2007. Spring was twice named all-district first team in football and was named first team all-region in 2006. In 2007, Spring won the National District wrestling title in the heavyweight division, before attending Shepherd University where he earned WVIAC all-conference honors as an offensive lineman for the Rams.
Coach Bruce Sheppard (2001-2007) was the head varsity football and track & field coach during his reign at Loudoun Valley. The Vikings football team amassed a 36-24 record during Sheppard’s tenure, making region semifinal appearances in 2003 and 2005. In 2003, Sheppard led the Vikings track & field team to its first district championship in program history. After his tenure at Loudoun Valley, Sheppard became the athletic director at Loudoun County High School, earning the VHSL Regional Award of Merit from 2018-2020.
