Sterling, Va. — The 7th Annual JCFM Scholarship Mini Golf Tournament proved once again that even the smallest format of golf can make a big difference. This year’s event raised nearly $6,000 for the Jeffrey C. Fowler Memorial Scholarship, a fund that supports graduating LCPS students with a passion for sports.
You read that right: MINI golf. This annual tournament puts a fun twist on the typical charity golf tournament with a mini golf one that’s fun for all ages.
“Our Uncle Jeff had a great sense of humor and loved sports and family. We know that he would have gotten a kick out of seeing the community together for a mini golf tournament,” JCFM Scholarship President Owen Gotimer said.
Golfers enjoyed 18 holes of mini golf and a delicious buffet breakfast, with prizes and a silent auction made possible by donations from local businesses and community members. The tournament was held at the Dulles Golf Center and Sports Park thanks to the generosity of Managing Partner Andy Stromberg.
Erick H. and Luis S. tied for first place this year, taking home a Spanky’s Shenanigans gift card and a 6-play pass for Pev’s Paintball.
All proceeds from the event went directly to the scholarship fund. 2024’s scholarships included two $4,000 awards and one $2,000 award.
“We’re thrilled to award this scholarship every year to deserving LCPS students whose passion for sports has positively impacted their lives, whether they’re athletes, student journalists, team managers or big sports fans in general,” Gotimer said.
With this year’s mini golf tournament wrapped, the scholarship board is looking forward to its next round of scholarships. Class of 2025 graduates can submit applications for the JCFM Scholarship starting January 2025.
About the Jeffrey C. Fowler Memorial ScholarshipThe Jeffrey C. Fowler Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually in memory of Jeff Fowler, a 1983 graduate of Park View High School, where he played baseball and basketball. On and off the field, Jeff dedicated his life to his family and teaching his 15 nieces and nephews everything he could about sports, but more importantly served as a lifelong role model for everyone he ever met. Since 2015, the JCFM Scholarship has awarded an impressive $48,500 total to 25 LCPS graduates whose passion for sports has changed their lives.
