Dear LoCoSports fans,
I’d like to take a timeout from our regular coverage to highlight a cause that my family holds close to our hearts: the Jeffrey C. Fowler Memorial Scholarship.
If you know me, you know I care deeply about giving back to the community, particularly Loudoun County students and student-athletes.
Through LoCoSports, we provide high school student-athletes with deserved recognition, provide timely updates, and allow students to hone their media skills through experience, training, and mentoring. And through OG Media, we support the community through tens of thousands of dollars in in-kind donations. We’re able to do this because of our dedicated team, amazing high school athletic leadership, and generous community members.
But the cause I want to share with you today is the Jeffrey C. Fowler Memorial Scholarship.
This scholarship is awarded annually to graduating students from Loudoun County high schools who are going to college and whose passion for sports has influenced their lives.
It’s named in memory of my Uncle Jeff, a 1983 graduate of Park View High School and a passionate sports fan. On and off the field, Jeff dedicated his life to his family and teaching his 15 nieces and nephews everything he could about sports—but more importantly served as a lifelong role model for everyone he ever met. On March 23, 2013, Uncle Jeff lost his 14-year battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Since 2015, we’ve been able to award more than $38,000 in scholarships to 22 students. LCPS seniors can apply for the 2024 scholarship until March 28, 2024.
For the past six years, we hosted a MINI golf tournament in October that’s a great fundraiser for this scholarship, and we can’t wait to be back out on the mini golf course this fall.
But this year, we’re also doing something a little different. We’re adding a spring fundraiser—a charity cornhole tournament at ResQ BBQ in Leesburg on Sunday, April 14, 2024.
I’d love it if you’d join us at our cornhole tournament. The cornhole tournament will be a lot of fun—and we’ll have delicious BBQ, cold beer, live music, a raffle, prizes, and more!
You can sign up for the cornhole tournament at jcfmscholarship.com/cornhole. And you should bring a friend to team up with to dominate the competition!
If you can’t make it to the tournament this year, there are still a few ways you can participate:
- Purchase raffle tickets online for a chance to win a variety of raffle items!
- Become a board (or bag) sponsor and get a custom set of cornhole boards (or bags) to keep!
- Invite your friends and family to join us for a fun-filled afternoon!
We’re hoping that the event will be a great day of bringing community members together for a great cause—supporting our Loudoun County students and their bright futures.
Thanks for reading and see you soon!
Your Owl-in-Chief,
Owen
