Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Gymnaze and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce John Champe High School senior Khwaja Ahmed as the Gymnaze and LoCoSports Teammate of the Month for December 2021.
”Khwaja positively impacts the team by setting a great example of what being a teammate is through the way you encourage other individuals on the team and the practice habits you need to exhibit to make yourself and your partner better,” John Champe head coach Joel Elmquist said. “His role as a leader has allowed him to take charge of the warm ups before practice and matches and in the weight room while helping to teach the younger wrestlers the proper way to workout and the effort needed to be a better athlete and wrestler.”
Ahmed leads by example both on and off the mat, where he finished runner up at 106 pounds at the Woodgrove Holiday Wrestling Invitational on December 30 in Purcellville. Typically, wrestling in the lightest weight class, Ahmed is always willing to move up a weight class in order to help the team win. He also goes above and beyond to work with less experienced wrestlers to teach them about effort, technique, and a team-first mentality.
“He works with the younger and inexperienced wrestlers to make them better; he coaches them when he comes off the mat and in the room to correct their mistakes,” Elmquist said. “He is always positive with the younger less experienced wrestlers in our program.”
