Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Gymnaze and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce Briar Woods High School junior Jenna van der Biezen as the Gymnaze and LoCoSports Teammate of the Month for September 2021.
During the month of September, van der Biezen led the Falcons to a 5-2 record, dropping just six sets the entire month, while defeating Meridian, Broad Run, John Champe, Potomac Falls, and Woodgrove in straight sets.
“Jenna understands that the effort she gives at practice and during games is 100% in her control at all times,” Briar Woods head coach Joe Riggio said. “She does not make excuses, and she takes ownership of what is working and what needs improvement. Her drive and energy pushes our team to be their best on and off the court. Her ability to get to the ball, make a great play, and support her teammates always has a positive impact on our team.”
As the Briar Woods setter, van der Biezen is an energetic and vocal leader, who uses her personality to bring her teammates together.
“Jenna leads by the same way she plays: ultra competitive but also one of the funniest players on the team. Her humor coupled with her personal connection to every player on the team makes her a great teammate,” Riggio said. “She holds herself accountable as well as her teammates, and she will always try to put her teammates in the best possible position to be successful.”
