Aldie, Va. — John Champe High School senior first baseman Logan Yi has decided to further his academic and athletic careers at Division III Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.
“At a very young age, I connected to baseball. I was never excited about trying other sports. In fact, I refused,” Yi said. “I appreciate how each field position is different and requires a slightly different set of skills and approaches. I enjoy that baseball involves a lot of strategy and thinking ahead.”
[adrotate group=”5″]Yi’s interest in baseball was sparked when he was five years old and grew as years went by. He entered his first travel league when he was in second grade. Now, at 6-foot-4, Yi plays for Stars Showcase Baseball and the Ashburn Knights at first base and pitcher.
After a nerve-wracking recruitment process – researching schools, contacting coaches, attending prospect camps and showcases – Yi finally landed on Washington College.
“I am proud, honored, and excited. When we came to a decision, I was elated. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face,” Yi said.
Drawn to Washington College’s campus, he ultimately chose the college for the opportunity they are presenting him with.
“The best reason for me to attend Washington College is that they will allow me to play baseball in college,” Yi said. “Upon touring the facilities and meeting the coaching staff, I feel that their program will prepare and challenge me as I play at the next level.”
Before moving onto his college baseball career, Yi still has one final season on the John Champe baseball team. Throughout his four years on the Knights’ varsity baseball team, there have been three head coaches that each have their own specific styles.
“They provided an environment to mature and grow through different perspectives,” Yi said. “I learned a bit more about myself and my abilities.”
Through the ups and downs of his athletic career, Yi has stayed present and ready to accept and adapt to every change that is thrown his way, as well as help others prepare for similar changes.
“It has been a blast playing baseball with all my Champe teammates. I hope to mentor and share my knowledge with the incoming underclassmen,” Yi said, “I would not trade away my experience playing John Champe baseball as it has helped to shape the player and person I am today.”
