Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Power Train and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce Stone Bridge High School junior Paul Thoppil as the Power Train and LoCoSports Teammate of the Month for May 2019.
“Paul brings energy and passion to the team and to the program and is one of the most well-respected and liked players on the team,” Stone Bridge head coach Scott Mitchell said. “His selfless play is demonstrated by his willingness the past two seasons to play midfield, close defense, LSM, and face-off — the last of which he had never done before but never questioned it when he was asked to do it in a game for the first time.”
Thoppil’s leadership on the field in practice and in games was evident throughout the season as the junior led the Bulldogs to a 10-6 record in 2019, including a trip to a VHSL Region 5C semifinal game.
“Paul’s main objective is not to have the spotlight shine on himself, but rather to have the team experience success and to let his teammates shine if that is what it takes for the team to play good lacrosse and win,” Mitchell said. “Paul keeps practices positive with some good-natured trash talk but is also quick to push his teammates when they aren’t playing up to their potential and to pick up his teammates when they’re struggling and need some encouragement.”
