Leesburg, Va. — The Park View High School boys soccer team defeated the Heritage Pride 3-0 on May 7, aided by two goals from junior defender Anthony Lampe.
“When the ball comes towards me, I’m just focused on putting the ball towards the net the best I can,” Lampe said.
[adrotate banner=”19″]Lampe and his senior teammate David Rivera were the two men who capitalized on the Patriots’ scoring opportunities.
“I think it is just from experience,” said Lampe, on how he puts himself in the best place to score. “I’ve been playing soccer a long time and I know how to read the ball in the air.”
Park View was very active and operated communicatively on the offensive end all game. Lampe matched that intensity on the defensive end hustling throughout.
“Our four back line, we try to play as tight as a team as we possibly can,” Lampe said. “We take a lot of pride and ownership to keep clean sheets, and we all try to work together as a team and put our maximum effort in it.”
Park View’s effort showed in the shutout of Heritage, but the Pride’s resolve did not go unnoticed.
“First of all, you’ve gotta give credit to Heritage,” Park View head coach Arturo Jimenez said. “They’re a very good team, and they play us well every year.”
No matter the score, Jimenez tries to fix his team’s mistakes and put them in a better position to win.
“What we wanted to do on them was change the field on them,” Jimenez said. “We didn’t do that in the first half as much as we did in the second half.”
Coming into the game at 12-4-0, Park View was ready from the start, never taking their foot off of the gas.
“I always preach teamwork,” Jimenez said. “Most importantly, helping each other out.”
Regardless of the score, the Pride played well. Heritage senior goalkeeper Brandon Davies had save after save against short range attempts, serving as a vocal leader and directing his team throughout the game.
The Patriots look to capitalize on this big win and carry the momentum into the postseason, in hopes of bringing home a Dulles District tournament championship.
