Loudoun County, Va. – In an effort to better recognize student-athletes who positively affect high school sports in Loudoun County, Power Train and LoCoSports have teamed up to announce Tuscarora High School junior Leron West as the Power Train and LoCoSports Athlete of the Month for September 2017.
West’s performance in September has put him on a lot of teams’ radars, as in just three starts, the junior carried the ball 60 times for 675 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“Leron’s been doing a great job for us playing the slot,” Tuscarora head coach Michael Burnett said. “Because of injuries, we threw him in at tailback. From that point on, it’s been his ability to make plays. It has been really fun to watch a kid mature like that.”
[adrotate banner=”6″]After starting at slot receiver all fall, West got the call to start at running back for the Huskies when they hosted Woodgrove in Leesburg on September 15. In an offensive shootout, West scored five rushing touchdowns and added an 88-yard touchdown reception to lead the Huskies past the Wolverines.
“We didn’t know how Leron would respond, so we had a backup plan, but we just never got to do it,” Burnett said after the game. “We had some things we wanted to try, but we decided to just keep giving him the ball. Next thing you know, he’s running down the field.”
The Power Train and LoCoSports Athlete of the Month is selected from nominations based on student-athletes having great success, hustle, work ethic, attitude and heart.
Power Train invites all athletes and teammates of the month to either of their Loudoun locations for a free month of training.
