Leesburg (April 20, 2017) — Heritage High School senior Ryan Boyd has made a commitment to continue his lacrosse career at Gwynedd Mercy University beginning in the 2017-2018 academic year.
“After my overnight visit, I knew that Gwynedd Mercy is where I wanted to be for the next four years,” the 6-foot-1 Boyd said. “I feel like coach Lindstrom is very passionate about the team and has built a great lacrosse program in the CSAC conference. The team has a common goal that they have bought into which is to win the CSAC championship every year.”
Tenth-year head coach Dana Lindstrom has the Division III Griffins off to a 6-5 start in 2017 including a 4-1 mark in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Last season, Gwynedd Mercy finished 6-1 in the CSAC and 10-5 overall.
The young Griffins will graduate just six seniors – and only one defenseman – in 2017, so Boyd will have his work cut out for him in competing for playing time in 2018.
“I am a fundamentally sound defender that can cause turnovers and provide a versatile option in the Griffins’ clearing game,” Boyd said. “I stay motivated because I want to be able to compete for playing time.”
Boyd has developed into the defender he is today thanks to his coaches and Rock Ridge High School senior Max Wayne – who is committed to play at DIII Christopher Newport.
“We both have the same goals in mind that keeps us working hard every day, so we are prepared for competing at the next level,” said Boyd, who is Evergreen Lacrosse Club teammates with Wayne.
Before the Leesburg-native heads to southeastern Pennsylvania to join Gwynedd Mercy, Boyd will suit up for one final season with Heritage. The Pride have started 1-4 and will travel to Riverside to take on the Rams in a Dulles West clash on April 21.
“I’ve had great teammates and coaches these four years, and they have made it an unforgettable experience,” Boyd said. “I can’t wait to play in my final season with the Pride.”
